Hydrohorse™ underwater treadmill

Circle Oak Equine boasts a custom-designed Hydrohorse™ underwater equine treadmill. The Hydrohorse™ is an in-ground, submerged treadmill, with heated water and whirlpool jets and is a key component of many of our treatment and conditioning regimens. Whether it is for rehabilitation or performance conditioning, the Hydrohorse provides a controlled, buoyant, straight line on a flat service workout for low-impact, full range of motion exercise that speeds the return to fitness and performance with minimal risk of injury.

Our Hydrohorse™ is the Model 1000, which features a 12’ treadmill that easily accommodates large breeds. It is covered to allow for safe, comfortable all-weather use. Non-skid rubber pavers cover the flooring around the treadmill and the entrance and exit ramps. Our Hydrohorse™ has a custom entry-gate system with generous padding on all surfaces to reduce the risk of injury.

The rubber-paved wash station is equipped with overhead infrared heaters and horses are washed with warm water immediately after exercising to remove any traces of chlorine from their skin. We dry and blanket all horses in inclement weather and have ample heated space for final drying.

While in the Hydrohorse™ all horses have two handlers/vet techs holding lead ropes, with a third person attending during entry and exit. Most horses accommodate rapidly to the soothing feeling of the warm water and the ease of exercising in a buoyant environment. They don’t realize that the resistance of the water is actually giving them a cardiovascular workout superior to what they would receive on ground.

The Hydrohorse™ is equipped with 3 powerful filters to keep hair, manure and other contaminants out of the water, and we use chlorine at about the same percentage as a swimming pool to kill germs. The powerful pumps and the triple sand filters provide complete filtration of all 1400 gallons every 4 ½ minutes.
